Taupe Coloured Bubble Glass Bell or Dome by Biot

Sale price€90,00

There is something rather irresistible about old French glassware, especially when it looks as though it has captured a thousand champagne bubbles mid-celebration.

This beautiful vintage dome or cloche was crafted in the south of France by the renowned glassmakers of Biot, famous for their hand blown bubble glass with its signature suspended “bulles”. Dating from the 1970s, the glass carries that wonderfully tactile character Biot became beloved for: rustic yet elegant, playful yet impossibly chic. (Rather like a French grandmother wearing silk slippers while tending tomatoes in the garden).

The softly smoked taupe-purple hue catches the light beautifully throughout the day, while the trapped bubbles give the glass a dreamy, almost underwater appearance. Heavy and wonderfully substantial in the hand, this is the sort of piece that quietly transforms whatever sits beneath it. Lemons suddenly resemble a still life painting. A simple cake begins behaving like royalty.

Perfect as a cloche for pastries, cheeses or fruit, but equally lovely placed over treasured objects, or simply left empty and admired for its sculptural form alone.

Each piece of Biot glass is individually mouth blown, meaning no two domes are ever entirely alike, which is exactly the charm of them. Tiny variations, dancing bubbles and decades of French artistry all wrapped into one luminous object.
