We Are Wildschut Antiques
Gathering & Restoring
Michiel Wildschut and Baukje Stamm specialize in collecting, gathering, and restoring decorative antique objects. Their penchant for luxurious designs spans the 18th to the 20th century, which they artfully blend in a distinctive and delightful manner. Traveling throughout Europe, they acquire items that ignite the imagination, from antique armoires to vintage Venetian chandeliers. Rather than adhering to a specific era or style, their preference lies in quirky, unconventional, and mismatched designs, embracing the ambiance of faded grandeur.
Whimsical Atmosphere
Traditional pieces are combined with playful, kitsch items to cultivate a whimsical atmosphere. In the restoration workshop we clean and restore our items, while preserving the original patina as much as possible.

Maintained with love
For over three decades, Michiel Wildschut has been curating, restoring, and trading in antiques. Renowned for his craftsmanship, he possesses a meticulous hand and a keen eye for detail. His expertise lies particularly in antique armoires sourced from France and Italy, as well as French mirrors and Venetian chandeliers.
Eye for Detail and Knowledge
We combine an attentive eye for detail with a background grounded in knowledge of the objects and the eras that they are from. Mix this together with our love for colours, bold designs and a sense of adventure and the Wildschut aesthetics starts to surface. Every object that we bring into our store is carefully curated. We pay special consideration to the state of the object. We have the in-house knowledge to restore and refurbish the pieces.
Curating Decors
We curate decors and furniture items tailored to fit a space, ensuring that every room in your home is adorned to your preferences. Our backgrounds are in antiques, graphic design, and interior design. Michiel has been immersed in antiques his entire life, establishing his store in Amsterdam in 1999. On the other hand, Baukje brings a background in film, advertising, and design, evident in her appreciation for unconventional and cinematic compositions.
Philosophy
The allure of Antiques
In stores nowadays we see a lot of materials that have been 'aged' to look old. They have been made dirty, they are bleached or oxidised. We love the fact that all materials that are going through our hands are no fakes, but are the real deal. They have absorbed traces of human life, and take on a specific richness. That's why we love to keep them!
Why buy antiques?
Much like the stock market is cyclical, antiques will always make a come back. “As design becomes mainstream, people are going to want individuality and the special touch that will make their interiors remarkable,” says Benoist Drut of New York’s Maison Gerard. The appeal of antiques is that many pieces are truly one-of-a-kind, and made with a level of craftsmanship that can be otherwise impossible to find today.

“For us the destination is not the ultimate aim. It is just part of the traveling experience. The rush of hunting down a wonderful selection of antique furniture, traveling gear, porcelains, fabrics, paintings and every day oddities. Through small and subtle interventions our objects take on a new life to be treasured again.”
Michiel Wildschut
“I am a material purist. I love the feeling of real wood and aged materials. I am curious to research how antiques can make surprising combinations with modern design or how they can give character to a space that it is lacking a 'soul' otherwise.”
