We Are Wildschut Antiques

Gathering & Restoring

At Wildschut Antiques, Baukje and Michiel Wildschut are part treasure-hunters, part restoration romantics. Our obsession? Chasing down the curious, the grand, and the gorgeously timeworn. Think 18th-century armoires with just the right creak, or chandeliers with a past life on a Venetian palazzo ceiling. We scour Europe in pursuit of the pieces that make our hearts race. We don’t do "matching sets" or "safe choices" – we prefer a joyful jumble of eras and styles, a celebration of faded grandeur with a wink.

Whimsical Atmosphere
The secret to our aesthetic?
Juxtaposition. We mix stately mirrors with a splash of kitsch, Louis XVI next to 1970s ceramics. It’s the kind of playful, layered style that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Back in our workshop, each piece gets a loving refresh, not a total facelift. We honour patina like it’s a precious metal—because, frankly, it is.

Maintained with love

Michiel’s hands have restored more antiques than most people have had hot dinners. With over 30 years of experience, he’s the go-to guy for French armoires, Italian wardrobes, and chandeliers with drama. His craftsmanship is legendary, his standards sky-high, and his ability to bring pieces back to life? Almost alchemical.

Eye for Detail and Knowledge

We're not just collectors—we’re trained eyes with a soft spot for the extraordinary. Our passion is backed by decades of knowledge and a love for colour, bold choices, and a dash of irreverence. Every piece we bring in is handpicked and vetted for character, beauty, and bones. We restore in-house, so what you see is not only original, but also ready to shine in the now.

Curating Decors

We don’t just sell antiques—we create worlds. With a background in antiques, interior styling, film, and graphic design, we know how to dress a space. Michiel, with a lifetime of antique know-how, opened our Amsterdam shop in 1999. Baukje brings the visual drama, mixing cinematic flair with a rebel’s sense of composition. The result? Rooms that tell stories.

Philosophy

The allure of Antiques

Let’s face it: fake patina is the fast fashion of interiors. Bleached woods, factory-made distressing—no thank you. We deal only in the real deal. Pieces with soul, that have soaked up decades (sometimes centuries) of life. The richness of genuine age? You can’t bottle it. So we preserve it—because that’s where the magic lives.

Why buy antiques?

Antiques are the original statement pieces. As interiors become increasingly same-same, antiques bring individuality and soul. They're often one-of-a-kind, crafted by hands that knew their craft. As Benoist Drut once said, "When design gets too slick, antiques sneak back in through the side door." We say: let them waltz in and steal the show.

Where elegance meets obsession

Our Expertise

Antique Armoires

We’re connoisseurs of the grand and the storied—our handpicked collection of 18th- and 19th-century armoires is a love letter to European craftsmanship. Each piece is restored in-house with reverence for its past: we preserve the original patina, the scars, the secrets. Because character, darling, can’t be faked.

Venetian Murano Glass Chandeliers

In close collaboration with our Italian artisans, we source Murano chandeliers that shimmer with heritage and theatrical glamour. These aren’t just lights—they’re the crown jewels of a room. Crafted on Venetian soil, curated with a Wildschut eye, they bring a little dolce vita drama wherever they go.

Antique Mirrors

Our mirror collection reads like a who's who of gilt-edged royalty—Louis Philippe, Rococo, Louis XV, Louis XVI. Each one selected for its elegance, age, and je ne sais quoi. We believe a mirror should do more than reflect—it should enchant, anchor, and elevate your space with quiet authority.

Our Network

We have eyes everywhere. Our network stretches from sleepy French towns and Moroccan souks to serious European auction houses. Whether you’re dreaming of a powder-blue Venetian chandelier or a linen-draped Gustavian settee, let us know. We love a good treasure hunt—especially with a specific mission.

“We’re not in it for the destination. We’re in it for the thrill of the chase—hunting down forgotten treasures, giving them a gentle nudge back to life, and sending them off to live their next chapter.”

Michiel Wildschut

“Real materials have a language. Wood, glass, brass—they speak. I’m endlessly curious about how antiques can spark dialogue in a modern interior, and how they lend soul where there was none.”
