Rare Vintage Italian Majolica Ceramic Fig-Shaped Pitcher or Jug

Sale price€130,00

A pitcher that looks as though it was plucked straight from the table of a flamboyant Sicilian countess with a fondness for figs and very long lunches.

This rare vintage Italian jug is shaped like a ripening fig, complete with sculptural leaves curling dramatically around the top and a beautifully textured fruit motif cascading down the front. The softly blended tones of sage green, dusty plum and creamy blush give it that unmistakable sun-faded Italian elegance we are forever hunting for.

Wonderfully decorative yet entirely usable, it is perfect for serving water, wine or summer lemonades. Equally lovely filled with wild branches or standing proudly on an open kitchen shelf like the eccentric little artwork it truly is.

Hand coloured and richly glazed, the pitcher carries all the small irregularities and nuances that make vintage Italian ceramics so charming. Tiny variations from the firing and glazing process are part of its handmade character and not flaws.

The piece remains in good vintage condition with gentle wear consistent with age, and no chips or cracks. A rather glorious slice of fruity Italian theatricality.
