Peperoncino Olive Oil by Oliva d'Oro, 500ml
A Little Bottle of Umbrian Fire
Made by a Dutch Father-Daughter Duo
Olive oil has been made in Italy for thousands of years, so naturally, when a Dutch father and daughter decide to start producing their own in Umbria, they do so with a healthy dose of dedication, a great deal of love and, presumably, the occasional raised Italian eyebrow.
Meet Tess and her dad Fred, the duo behind Oliva d’Oro. Together, they have poured their love for Italy into their family estate in Monte del Lago, where they care for thousands of olive trees and produce their own beautiful extra virgin olive oil. And while they may not have been born into an ancient Italian olive-oil dynasty, Tess is nothing if not determined. Not only to make wonderful oil, but to do so organically. Their dedication to organic production is officially certified, with the labels to prove it. The result? An oil that has already won taste awards and is, quite frankly, something to be very proud of.
This is the chilli version: a smooth, fruity extra virgin olive oil with a wonderfully warm kick of peperoncino. Not the sort of chilli oil that storms into the room shouting for attention, but one that knows exactly when to turn up the heat. It is the bottle to reach for when your pasta is being perfectly pleasant but could really do with a little more personality. A drizzle over pizza, grilled vegetables, fish, meat, soup or, frankly, anything that looks like it might enjoy a bit of drama.
And then there is the bottle. Elegant, beautifully designed and rather lovely to leave standing on the kitchen counter, but the real charm is in the label. It reads like a tiny fairytale storybook, with little illustrations of Tess and her dad working among the olive trees. Even the practical details have been given a little poetry: the wooden stopper creates an airtight seal when the bottle is not in use, opens smoothly and closes again with satisfying ease. A lovely bottle in every sense, from the oil inside to the little story wrapped around it.
In stock again from July 30th!
