19th C Narrow French Louis XVI Style Mirror

Sale price€2.980,00

An exceptionally tall and narrow 19th-century mirror with its beautifully preserved original glass plate and original paint, crafted in France.

This rare-sized wall mirror, dating from the mid to late 19th century, is known in Amsterdam as a "damspiegel" as such mirrors were traditionally placed between the windows of stately canal homes.

This particular piece is crafted in the elegant Louis XVI (Seize) style and features a painted frame made of wood and plaster, gesso, and gilt over wood. The frame is healthy and the mirror plate is still in a very good (& heavy!) state. The looking glass has a couple of very tiny spots, all part of the mirrors authentic look and charm.

This mirror was originally designed as a mantelpiece mirror for a narrow fireplace, but works beautifully as a wall mirror or a floor-standing mirror due to its impressive height.

Both highly decorative and practical, this antique mirror with its original patina makes a stunning addition to any interior, enhancing the charm of any room it graces.
