Let’s talk drama—sun-drenched and fiery. This mid-century painting is everything: bold, juicy brushstrokes, thick texture you want to touch (don’t), and a colour palette that feels like someone bottled the last 10 seconds of a cinematic sunset and poured it directly onto canvas.
We’ve affectionately nicknamed her Mount Fuji at Sunset, but truthfully? Your guess is as good as ours. Could it be the iconic Japanese volcano haloed by an orange sun? Maybe. Could it just be a maximalist ode to the golden hour, painted after one too many rosés in the South of France? Also very likely.
A sea of yellow dominates the lower half, rippling with energetic waves—more Van Gogh holidaying in Ibiza than classical landscape. The massive orange orb floats in front of what may be a mountain… or maybe it’s just the sun in a high-drama hat. Either way, we’re here for it.
Signed on the reverse by Sheelah Walker, dated 1968. We couldn’t trace her (yet), but there’s something very British-or-American-expat-meets-Menton-artist-retreat about it. It retains its original vintage wooden frame—tastefully simple, letting the painting do all the talking. Recently cleaned by our paint restorer from the University of Amsterdam, the yellowed varnish was whisked away to reveal colour so vibrant it practically flirts with you from across the room.
A perfect piece for anyone wanting a bit of heat, a lot of colour, and high-style mystery on their wall.

Please keep in mind that in many cases we sell vintage and antique pieces. None of these pieces should be considered new or in perfect condition.
All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use. We restore our pieces so they will be clean and in a good working condition. However we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.

The physical object can differ slightly in colour from the object as presented online. We have made every effort to display colours accurately, but cannot guarantee that the pictures accurately reflect the colour of those goods in real life.
