Large Vintage Stampe SV.4 Biplane Airplane Model
The Orange Aviator: Vintage Stampe SV.4 Scale Model Airplane, Almost Two Metres of Wingspan
Some models ask for a shelf. This one asks for airspace!
With a wingspan of close to two metres, this is not a trinket for a windowsill — it's a sculptural showstopper, a proper piece of aviation art that happens to have landing gear. Built by hand in the 1970s–1980s, it carries all the presence of the aircraft that inspired it.
This is a large-scale model of the legendary Stampe SV.4, dressed in its most joyful guise: the brilliant orange livery of the Belgian flying school. Every marking is faithful to the real thing — the serial V-28 on the fuselage (the "V" for Vliegschool, the Belgian flying school), the roundels worn proudly on the wings, and the Belgian tricolour flashed across the tail. These aren't decorative flourishes; they're the honest details that make this a genuine slice of aviation history.
A word on the SV.4, because it deserves one. Designed in Belgium in the 1930s, this elegant biplane became one of Europe's most beloved trainers — the aircraft that taught generations how to fly. The bright-orange Belgian versions are the most iconic of all, impossible to mistake and impossible not to smile at. This model captures every bit of that cheerful swagger.
Where does it belong? A library, a study, a boy's room, a stairwell that needs a jolt of personality? Anywhere you'd welcome the romance of the golden age of flight.
Condition: This one has flown — and we mean that literally. Built in the 1970s–1980s and genuinely airborne in its day, it wears a few honest scratches and signs of use, all of which only add to its character. Nothing dramatic: it landed safely and remains in an honest and good vintage condition. The wings lift off for easy handling and transport.
A conversation piece with wings, forever ready for its next adventure.
