Rare-Sized French Louis XVI Period Giltwood Trumeau Marriage Mirror

An elegant and finely carved Louis XVI period trumeau mirror, dating from circa 1780–1820. This tall example is a rare size for a wedding or marriage mirror, and features a beautifully detailed crest with two birds and crossed arrows. One bird appears to be a dove, the other bears some resemblance to an eagle—adding an intriguing touch to its symbolism.

Delicate laurel garlands and tassels complete the neoclassical design. In classical tradition, laurel stands for victory, renewal, and immortality—making this mirror not only decorative but also richly symbolic.

The mirror retains its original antique glass with charming foxing, and a wooden back. The frame is structurally sound and has a warm, timeworn patina. Minor imperfections are consistent with its age and only add to its charm.

Notably taller than most mirrors of this kind, this rare format makes it a standout piece—perfect for adding a sense of understated grandeur to your interior.

Note: The stripe visible in the glass is from the board used during photography—it is not part of the mirror glass!
