Large 19th C Antique French Louis Philippe Armoire or Wardrobe, Hand Sanded Cherrywood
A wonderfully rustic French Louis Philippe armoire, crafted from hand-sanded cherry wood and dating to around 1880.
The exterior has been carefully hand-sanded to reveal the natural beauty of the wood. The warm honey tones and lively grain give the piece that unmistakable French country character. Open the double doors and you’ll find a spacious interior, painted in a soft buttery yellow that feels both cheerful and quietly elegant.
As with all our armoires, the piece has been professionally treated against termites and carefully restored where needed. It remains beautifully honest: gentle signs of age and use are visible here and there, exactly what one hopes to see on a piece that has been living its life for nearly a century and a half. Structurally it is in very good antique and fully functional condition.
One of the pleasures of this armoire is its flexible interior. The original configuration consists of shelves and a charming set of interior drawers. However, we also provide a removable hanging rod, allowing the cupboard to be used for hanging garments such as coats, blouses or jackets. (Long dresses will need a taller wardrobe.) To use the hanging section, the shelf with drawers can simply be removed.
In short, you receive both interior options, so you can decide what suits your home best.
In this armoire the shelves are fixed in place, with only the upper shelf adjustable by a small margin.
Generous in size, this armoire offers excellent storage. It works beautifully as a wardrobe, but equally well for linen, tableware, or kitchen storage. In the right room it becomes one of those pieces that quietly anchors the entire space.

Please keep in mind that in many cases we sell vintage and antique pieces. None of these pieces should be considered new or in perfect condition.
All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use. We restore our pieces so they will be clean and in a good working condition. However we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.

The physical object can differ slightly in colour from the object as presented online. We have made every effort to display colours accurately, but cannot guarantee that the pictures accurately reflect the colour of those goods in real life.
