Archivist Gallery Mermaid Luxury Matchbox
We’ve long had a soft spot, bordering on complete obsession, for the wonderfully oversized matchboxes by Archivist Gallery. Part practical object, part tiny artwork, they turn the everyday ritual of lighting candles into something with a little more ceremony… a flicker of theatre for the mantelpiece.
This playful Mermaid design was created in collaboration with The Printed Peanut, the studio of illustrator Louise Lockhart, whose work joyfully borrows from vintage packaging, seaside nostalgia, and delightfully odd curiosities. Here, a flame-haired mermaid drifts through candy-coloured waters in a palette so cheerful it could brighten even the gloomiest rainy afternoon.
Filled with extra-long luxury matches and dressed in bold retro typography, this box is as decorative as it is useful. Leave it beside a stack of coffee table books, next to your favourite candle, or perched rather proudly on the mantel. Functional objects rarely get to have this much fun.
Archivist Gallery
Founded in 1994 by Sarah and William Allardice, Archivist Gallery began with a mission to revive exquisite images from the archives of the Natural History Museum. Since then, they’ve become masters of collaboration, working with artists and archives worldwide to create an irresistible portfolio of prints, stationery, and, of course, their famous luxury matches—everyday objects elevated into treasures.
The matches are non-toxic. Unlike other matches, Archivist Gallery's matches do not contain harmful substances such as sulfur or zinc oxide.
Tip: These matches are very handy for scented candles, especially if you need to reach all the way to the bottom of the glass jar to light the wick!

Transport & Delivery
All household, small fine art, and vintage items are available for in-store pickup or can be shipped domestically and internationally. Shipping expenses will be included during the checkout process for standard shipping.
All our large and delicate antique and vintage items require custom delivery, which must be organised separately from the product purchase. We will of course organise the transport for you and help you with all your questions. We ship world-wide and have lots of experience with the transport of fragile items. All of our products are professionally packed, shipped and send via one of our partners. We will make sure we will always find the best custom solution for your transport. General condition
Please keep in mind that in many cases we sell vintage and antique pieces. None of these pieces should be considered new or in perfect condition.
All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use. We restore our pieces so they will be clean and in a good working condition. However we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.

The physical object can differ slightly in colour from the object as presented online. We have made every effort to display colours accurately, but cannot guarantee that the pictures accurately reflect the colour of those goods in real life.
