Lighting with Luck: The Green Elephant Matchbox

We’ve been smitten with Archivist Gallery’s matchboxes for years—grand in scale, beautiful in design, and practical enough to light a whole orchestra of candles in one sweeping strike.

This design, the Green Elephant, carries with it a rich symbolism. In many cultures, elephants represent strength, wisdom, protection, and of course, good fortune. One look at this box and you can almost hear the rustle of jungle leaves—its lush design has a nostalgic charm that calls to mind The Jungle Book. A touch exotic, a touch nostalgic, and absolutely perfect for adding character to your interior.

Archivist Gallery
Founded in 1994 by Sarah and William Allardice, Archivist Gallery began by reviving exquisite imagery from the archives of the Natural History Museum. Today, they collaborate with artists and archives worldwide, creating witty, stylish, and collectible treasures: prints, cards, and their now-famous luxury matches.

Practical note: these long matches are lifesavers for scented candles in deep jars—finally, no more burned fingertips. And for peace of mind? Archivist matches are non-toxic, entirely free from sulphur and zinc oxide. In other words: pure fire, with nothing nasty.
