The Big Top Matchbox: Lion, Ring, and Flair

We’ve long been enchanted by Archivist Gallery’s matchboxes—lavishly oversized, beautifully crafted, and perfect for lighting a whole parade of candles in one elegant sweep.

This playful design, illustrated by the talented Ariane Butto, brings the circus to your mantelpiece: a lion holds a ring while a man leaps through it, capturing the thrill, spectacle, and whimsy of the big top in miniature form. A delightful nod to vintage circus posters, this matchbox is as much a collectible piece of art as it is a practical tool.

Archivist Gallery
Founded in 1994 by Sarah and William Allardice, Archivist Gallery began by reviving extraordinary prints from the archives of the Natural History Museum. Over the years, they’ve collaborated with artists and archives worldwide, creating a treasure trove of prints, cards, and, of course, their signature luxury matches.

And rest assured: these matches are completely non-toxic, free from sulphur, zinc oxide, or any other nasties—just pure, stylish fire at your fingertips.
