Ripe for the Picking: Ornate Louis Philippe Mirror with Gilt Grapevine Crest, France c.1850

Because nothing says old-world decadence like a bunch of gilded grapes!

This mirror doesn’t just reflect — it performs. Framed in rich, time-softened gold and crowned with an opulent crest of clustered grapes, scrolled acanthus, and delicate garlands, it’s a true 19th-century showstopper. If Bacchus had commissioned a mirror for his Paris pied-à-terre, we suspect it would look something like this.

The frame is strikingly deep and weighty — a rare detail, and a strong clue to its early origin. This is a mirror with presence, made to hold its own in any room. The gilding has aged beautifully, with that mellow, velvety patina only time can create.

The antique mirror plate shows gentle foxing — just enough to add character without stealing clarity. Structurally sound and wonderfully lived-in, it wears its age with grace: expect subtle surface wear, minor nicks, and a hint of old-world glamour in every reflection. The original backplate was too worn to restore and has therefore been replaced.

Please note: The vertical stripe visible in the glass is simply a reflection from the photography backdrop — not a flaw in the mirror itself.

The wooden slats visible underneath are for protective support during storage and transport. They can be easily removed if you wish to place or hang the mirror.
