Archivist Gallery Great Barrier Reef Match Box

Sale price€11,80

We have been big fans of the beautiful match boxes and matches from the Archivist Gallery for a long time. The matches and boxes are generously sized, making them suitable for lighting a whole series of candles at once.

This box design was created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, inspired by the artworks in The Great Barrier Reef of Australia by William Saville-Kent.

Saville-Kent (1845–1908) was an English marine biologist and author who dedicated his time in Australia to studying and illustrating the extraordinary corals of the Great Barrier Reef—at a time when their biology was still largely unknown.

The Archivist Gallery was founded in 1994 by Sarah and William Allardice to offer exceptional printed materials in the form of cards and stationery. The prints are sourced from the archives of the Natural History Museum. Over time, the Archivist Gallery has also collaborated with other archives and artists worldwide, resulting in an amazing range of prints, cards, and, not to forget, luxury matches.

The matches are non-toxic. Unlike other matches, the Archivist Gallery's matches do not contain harmful substances such as sulfur or zinc oxide.

Tip: These matches are very handy for scented candles, especially if you need to reach all the way to the bottom of the glass jar to light the wick!

These classic matchboxes make fabulous, fun & practical gifts for any occasion!
