Vintage Naive Dinner Scene Oil Painting

Sale price€3.280,00

This large vintage oil painting portrays a unique and possibly Spanish family dinner scene or celebration. The artwork depicts several intriguing elements. In the foreground, a young woman gracefully serves soup to a man seated at a table, engrossed in his meal. An elderly lady points her finger towards a man who is cutting a piece of a substantial ham. Meanwhile, on the right side of the painting, a man plays a guitar, adding a musical ambiance to the scene. All the men in the painting are dressed in black attire, complete with black (fedora) hats. The composition includes an assortment of food and pottery in the foreground.

The painting is executed in a colorful and charming naïve style, often associated with themes found in naïve art. Such themes frequently revolve around the artist's childhood memories, their place of birth, the environment they grew up in, as well as festive occasions and celebrations.

The artwork is signed by M. Damase and beautifully presented in an elegant black and gold frame. Its creation is estimated to date back to the 1950s or 1960s. The style and subject matter of the painting bear a resemblance to the works of the self-taught Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani (Niko Pirosmanashvili) and his distinctive naïve style. Naïve art, known for its simplistic technique and childlike simplicity, is the classification often associated with such pieces.
