Sanded Marriage Armoire

Sold

Elegant sanded French marriage armoire / wardrobe / cabinet, mid 18th century. Beautifully crafted with a striking pattern of timber, subtle flower carvings and long iron hinges.

The interior consists of shelves and is painted fresh grey inside.

The French had a lovely tradition of gifting their children with a “Marriage Armoire” upon their wedding. This armoire is an example of the typical marriage armoire. The overall design of the carvings enhances the doors and body of the armoire.

This armoire is in very good to excellent condition for an antique having been restored and hand sanded. There may be minor surface imperfections consistent with age and use but there are no mechanical or structural issues. Cabinet has been treated for termites.

For transport the armoire will be taken apart and will consist of the top, sides, back parts, doors, bottom and shelves.

We can outfit the interior to suit your needs with shelves and/or hanging rods. Please ask us for a quote at info@wildschut-antiques.com.
