Product info
A 19th Century French antique highly carved country wedding armoire / cabinet / wardrobe, coloured blue with natural indigo pigments, with interior shelves.
Organic indigo is a powder from the leaves of the indigo plant called Indigofera tinctoria. It is one of the oldest dyes known to humankind. Indigo was used to dye shrouds for Egyptian burials and uniforms for Napoleon’s Army, for instance. In addition, it dyed prestige cloth for African chiefs and denim for blue jeans. The color Indigo symbolises integrity and intuition. We took a couple of years and quite some experiments to understand how we could dye wood with indigo, yielding rich and dark blue tones.
This large armoire is in very good condition for an antique having been restored and coloured naturally. There may be some surface imperfections consistent with age and use but there are no mechanical or structural issues.
For transport the armoire will be taken apart and will consist of the top, sides, back parts, doors, bottom and shelves.

Condition & Photography
Please keep in mind that we only sell vintage and antique pieces and none of our pieces should be considered new or in perfect condition. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use. We restore our pieces so they will be clean and in a good working condition. However we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
The physical object can differ slightly in colour from the object as presented online. We have made every effort to display colours accurately, but cannot guarantee that the pictures accurately reflect the colour of those goods in real life.
