About Orchies Ceramics
Already the owner of a pottery factory in Rimbaud in Belgium in the 1870s, Emile L’Herminé Declercq, moved with his brother Joseph to Orchies, France, in 1886, eager to increase his production.
Orchies, is located near the Belgian border. In 1904, the production moved towards artistic earthenware under the name of “L’Herminé et Cie”. In the 1920s, the pottery of Orchies merged with the pottery of Hamage and became the “Moulin des Loups & Hamages”. The mark is then generally adorned with a windmill and the capital letter ORCHIES.
The pottery employs some 175 people in the 1910s, while the town of Orchies has about 5000 inhabitants. The production of cachepots with flowery decorations of Art Deco inspiration is typically “Orchies”
